Bate1 Prod will release a new EP, ‘Longa Espera’, later this week via Club Yeke. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Wind’ below.

The London label’s second release of 2023 features the sounds of Lisbon’s Miratejo neighbourhood, where production duo Bate1 Prod, aka Dj Doraemon and Lokowat, call home. Landing this Friday (3rd November), ‘Longa Espera’ takes a trip through the city’s burgeoning electronic subgenres – from the vibrant batida sounds championed by local label, Príncipe, to fiery ghetto-tarraxo and Angola-inspired kuduro rhythms.

“The idea of creating the group came about due to [our] passion for the ghetto style of music,” the duo share on the project, which was founded in 2018. “The main objective of the group is to spread [our] style of music to the world.”

Opener ‘Mau’ (‘Always’) reintroduces the duo’s genre-defiant style, with speedy terraxo beats and and elastic rhythms, while ‘Lambreta’ speaks directly to the hips with swinging grooves and wild-but-tight percussion. The duo continue to layer up the Afro-diasporic grooves on ‘1 Copa’, adding Angolan vocal chops into the mix, before changing the pace again for the sultry and pan flute-powered, ‘Wind’. Lisbon’s suburbs have never sounded better.

Founded by Tash LC in 2019 as a platform for repping global club sounds, London’s Club Yeke is home to releases from the likes of Kush AroraTONCALi & AKA AFK, DJ KatapilaBubas Produçoes, and more.
