Lithuania’s DJ JM will drop a new EP, ‘Abnormal’, via Nervous Horizon later this month. Listen to ‘Erazer’ below.

Following releases on Maloca, Even The Strong, and Goon Club Allstars, DJ JM — the hard-drum alias of Mantas Povilaika — serves up four zany breaksy jams on Wallwork and TSVI’s Nervous Horizon label.

While retaining the percussive backbone the Lithuanian producer built his name on, ‘Abnormal’ dials in on the mischievous rhythms and electro-techno energy first explored on 2019’s ‘No Days Off’ and 2022’s ‘Squash’ EPs.

Opener ‘Syze’ arrived earlier this month in a haze of crisp snares and squalling toplines, while the similarly playful ‘Pepper’ deals in gurgling acid-trip techno. JM continues to innovate on ‘Erazer’ – which you can hear below – weaving filtered pads and brawny breaks into a proper face-melter.

In a hat-tip to his heritage, JM infuses the organ synths and sniping lasers of ‘Abnormal’s title track with a Lithuanian essence, drawing influence from the recurrent, morphing shapes of the folk symbols carved into the remains of ancient settlements near Vilnius.

Since its founding in 2015, Hackney-based Nervous Horizon has established itself as one of the most consistently exciting and innovative club labels in London, with recent releases including Toumba’s ‘Janoob’ EP – influenced by the percussive sounds of his native Jordan – and Piezo’s ‘Cyclic Wavez’.

‘Abnormal’ is available via Nervous Horizon from 22nd September. Pre-order the EP here, and listen exclusively to ‘Erazer’ below.
