A new anthology album featuring tracks from pioneering Venezuelan artist Dj Yirvin will be released on the ACA label this week. Listen to a remix of ‘Ya Yahoo’ by Parisian artists Siu Mata & Amor Satyr below.

‘El Maximo Creador’ comprises tracks produced by Yirvin between 2002 and 2007, and marks the first time his music has been pressed to vinyl. At that time, the Caracas scene was booming with the sounds of raptor house, changa, tribal house and merengue, all played through the speakers of roving sound systems known as minitecas. Alongside the likes of DJ Babatr, DJ Deep, DJ Armando and DJ Linares, Yirvin was initially a member of The Raptor Crew, before splitting off to focus on his own hard fusion style, which is demonstrated in all its thundering percussive glory here.

The 11-track album follows February’s ‘Changa Fusion’, which was also released on ACA, a collaborative label between Barcelona’s Vimana and Québec’s Isla imprints. The new collection shines a light on tracks that were pivotal to the sound of Caracas’ barrios, such as ‘Petare’, ‘Fuma Marihuana’ and ‘Mételo Sacalo’, which Arca sampled in her official remix of Lady Gaga’s ‘Rain on Me’. Yirvin’s vocal sample-heavy style, sizzling synths and pounding drums have been staples in DJ sets by the likes of Cardopusher, aka Safety Trance, and Buraka Som Sistema over the years.

Alongside the original tracks, Siu Mata & Amor Satyr of Parisian label WAJANG have served up their own take on ‘Ya Yahoo’. Known for their full-pelt edits and drum-focused fusions — encompassing everything from juke, electro and baile funk to d&b, dubstep and “speed dembow” – the duo are fitting companions to Yirvin’s high-energy style. Listen for yourself below.

‘El Maximo Creador’ will be released this Friday 15th March. Pre-order it digitally here, or on 12" vinyl here.
