Hassan Abou Alam will release a new EP, ‘Shalfata’, later this month. Listen to ‘Te3ebt’ below.

Returning to Prague’s YUKU imprint, the Egyptian DJ and producer serves up four cuts of viscous, bass-forward club music, alongside remixes from ZULI, Joaquin Cornejo, 3phaz, and TRAKA. Tailor-made for massive systems, the EP packs a similar subby punch as recent projects for Banoffee Pies Records and Nehza Records – darting across the more experimental parameters of bass, breaks, and techno.

On the dark and dangerous title cut, apoplectic drum programming collides with thunderous low-end and a stuttering vox, while ‘Te3ebt’ is a subterranean mosaic of bleepy breaks and breath-snatching cutaways. The remixes are equally cavernous, including Joaquin Cornejo’s stunning, strings-led edit of ‘Mawgood’ and a glitched-out take on ‘Te3ebt’ from fellow Cairo-based producer, ZULI.

“‘Shalfata’ is an Arabic word that can roughly translate to many words depending on how it is used in a sentence,” Alam shared on the project. “Shalfata can mean messy, splattered, and sloppy... The music on this EP comes from a special place – I hope you enjoy.”

‘Shalfata’ is out 14th December. Pre-order the EP here, and listen to ‘Te3ebt’ below.
