Premiere: Sayveeyun ‘Imbued’

Sayveeyun will release a new EP, ‘Idiot Wind’, in January. Listen to ‘Imbued’ below.

The Montréal-based Tibetan-Canadian artist’s latest six track release follows his skeletal ambient pop two-tracker ‘Desire and Beside You’ from May, a Night Slugsy Cardi B remix from 2020, and the ‘Impulse Ode’ EP that same year.

‘Idiot Wind’ finds the producer leaning into his poppier sensibilities, placing stream of consciousness vocals over instrumentals that blend elements of psychedelic folk with his familiar deconstructed club palette. As he describes it, the release comprises “a form of weightless pop music that owes as much to Mumdance and Burial as it does to Grouper and Talk Talk.”

With lyrical vignettes exploring online personas, social climbing, and guilt, ‘Idiot Wind’ feels timely, its disjointed beats, distorted synths and tremoring bass plumes dipped in a distinctly 2022 vintage of anxiety. It feels particularly clear in the uneasy, crystalline synths that bleed into the mix on ‘Imbued’, swelling around a deep, thudding beat and Sayveeyun’s echoing vocals.

‘Idiot Wind’ will be released on 6th January. Pre-order it here and stream ‘Imbued’ here.
