Brooklyn's Bossa Nova Civic Club reopens after nine months

Brooklyn venue Bossa Nova Civic Club has reopened after nine months of inaction.

The venue returned this past weekend with a line-up that included Juliana Huxtable, BEARCAT, Honey Dip and Devoye.

The club was forced to close at the start of this year after sustaining damage due to a fire in the building that houses the venue. While the fire on the building's third floor did not reach ground level, where the club is situated, the venue faced what was described at the time as a "tremendous amount of damage".

Speaking to DJ Mag, Bossa Nova's owner John Barclay said it "feels surreal" to have the venue open again. "We didn't think it was gonna happen. The opening night was pandemonium; we had a line down the block starting at 9pm."

Trailing what club goers can expect from the reopened venue, he added: "We are looking forward to doing what we've been doing for the past decade: offering the citizens of Brooklyn and the globe mind-melting dance music, world-class cocktails, and top-notch customer service with a smile and an affordable price tag seven nights a week."

TYGAPAW, Lychee, Sepehr, 8ULENTINA, Physical Therapy, Akua and Aurora Halal are among the guest DJs who are lined up to play at the venue in the coming weeks. Keep up with the club's calendar here.
