Chaka Khan will curate the 50th anniversary edition of Southbank Centre's Meltdown festival this summer.

The iconic singer will lead the programme for the ten-day event, running from 14th June through the 23rd at the key central London arts venue. "I'm beyond excited to be a part of this legacy, bringing everyone together, young and old, for a summer celebration like no other", Chaka Khan said in a press statement.

"This festival isn't just about music, it's a feast for all your senses, a gathering of hearts and souls", the recent Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee continued. "We're going to funk it up, rock every crowd, and touch every soul. It's a community celebration, an all-ages bash".

The extended music lineup and arts programme is still to be announced. Find more information about Meltdown via Southbank Centre's website.

Previous Meltdown festival curators include Grace Jones, Nile Rodgers, Christine and the Queens, Laurie Anderson, David Byrne, James Lavelle, Lee Scratch-Perry, David Bowie, Anohni, M.I.A. and Massive Attack.

Chaka Khan last released an album of new material in 2019 with 'Hello Happiness', originally titled 'Like Sugar' after the lead single.
