Spanning 20 tracks, the new digital remix album reimagines the US artist's latest album ‘Raven’. The release has been anticipated by fans for some time now, with a steady stream of singles from the album being released over the past few months.
Back in October, ahead of the announcement of the full record, Kelela unveiled a remix of 'Contact' by Karen Nyame KG. In December, Flexulant x BAMBII's remix of 'Closure' feat. Rahrah Gabor + Brazy was shared, alongside a confirmation of the enlisted remix artists. A remix of ‘Happy Ending’ by London the artist A.G and JD. REID’s remix of 'Holier' featuring Shygirl were also shared last month.
"Sometimes I feel like I make original tracks just to experience the remix," Kelela said about 'RAVE:N', according to Pitchfork. "I think about how something will be interpolated while I'm writing and recording."
Sharing news of release on Instagram, Kelela wrote: "Not only are there are a range of sounds and dance music traditions represented, but each one feels like its own world. Remix projects are not only about the joy and catharsis we get from flipping and rearranging — they’re also about highlighting the brilliant work of artists who we’re inspired by in dance music."
‘Raven’ arrived on Warp Records in February last year. You can read DJ Mag's Album Of The Month review of the LP here.
