London electronic music and arts venue IKLECTIK confirms January closure and eviction
News of the closure follows a campaign which sought to keep the venue, and the Old Paradise Yard development that houses it, open
The team behind London music and arts venue IKLECTIK have confirmed that the space will officially close at the end of January 2024.
This is as a result of the venue being evicted from its Old Paradise Yard premises in Lambeth alongside a number of other small businesses that the development houses. Old Paradise Yard will be demolished in order to make way for a new development, which was first proposed a year ago first proposed a year ago and will include the building of the largest single office development ever seen in the Lambeth area of London.
IKLECTIK had issued an urgent statement in November of this year calling on people to petition local politicians and government figures to help the business stay open. That latest call for support, issued in response to the news that the landlord Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation could force the venue to close by Christmas, followed on from a lengthy campaigning process to keep IKLECTIK open.
In a statement shared this week, IKLECTIK said: "After months of spirited campaigning against the demolition and development of our home at Old Paradise Yard, we must announce that we will be evicted from our space at the end of January 2024.
"We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported us and our community throughout these challenging months."
The venue will host a series of special closing events through January, with the official closing date set for 24th January.
They wrote: "Although we are devastated to be losing our venue, we are also enormously proud of everything we've achieved together. Over the past ten years, our community has become the lifeblood of IKLECTIK and we cannot wait to come together in the New Year to celebrate just how far we've come."
The team has also confirmed that, although the venue will close, it is not the end of IKLECTIK, writing: "We know that we are so much more than a venue. IKLECTIK, as an organisation, is not fading away. We are actively working on our next steps and cannot wait to unveil our exciting plans to you all."
