A young man has died after a fire broke out at Glastonbury Festival’s Worthy Farm site on Monday evening (20th June).

The man has not yet been named, but is thought to be in his 20s. Police confirmed he died from severe burns after being airlifted to hospital, whilst local reports suggest the blaze was the result of a petrol spill in the Green Fields area of the Glastonbury site.

In a statement issued to the press this morning, a spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary, said, “We were called by the fire service after reports of a man on fire at the Glastonbury Festival site at about 5.20pm last night.

“The man suffered serious burns and was taken by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. He was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where he sadly later died.

“The man's family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time. Our enquiries are continuing but we are treating the death as unexplained and do not believe it to be suspicious.”

Glastonbury gates open to the public tomorrow (22nd June) and the festival line-up features performances from Underworld, Carl Cox, Four Tet, Oliver Heldens, Skepta, Floating Points, Bicep, Mr G, Roger Sanchez, Paranoid London and many more.
