Reinier Zonneveld has set the new Guinness World Record for the longest solo electronic music live set.

The Dutch techno DJ took to the mainstage at the inaugural Karren Maar festival in Arnhem, Netherlands on 5th August, where he played continuously for 11 hours and 11 minutes to break the record (which previously stood at 11 hours). Zonneveld started playing at 12:49 pm and finished precisely at midnight that evening, with a representative on hand from the Guinness World Records to certify the feat.

A number of official parameters stood for the attempt, including that the set must be performed continuously and by an individual; all tracks must be created by the challenger; hardware instruments (synthesisers, drum machines, samplers...) must be used in the set; and that new sounds and effects must be mixed into the base track throughout – simply playing and mixing base tracks only is not allowed.

Speaking on the achievement, Zonneveld said: “Karren Maar festival was an extraordinary journey of sound and connection. Playing for 11 hours and 11 minutes allowed me to deep dive into the essence of my music, exploring uncharted territories of emotion and energy. It was a humbling experience to witness the support and energy from the crowd, creating a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. I am grateful for the opportunity to have shared this unforgettable experience with everyone present, as we pushed the boundaries of what's possible in the world of electronic music.”

In addition to the set, Zonneveld’s label Filth on Acid hosted its own stage at Karren Maar, showcasing a bill of international techno talent, including Guatemalan-American DJ GORDO and Dutch tech titan Speedy J, alongside sets from Joyhauser, Kiki Solvej, Space 92 and Zeltak across the weekend.

Earlier this year, Zonneveld announced a new album set for release in September via Filth On Acid, alongside the first single, ‘Music Is The Answer’ featuring JG. The track featured in his set at Karren Maar, alongside other recent singles including ‘Keine Liebe, Kein Rave’, ‘Dance With The Devil’, and ‘Inferno (Space 92 Remix)’, featuring Carl Cox and Space 92.

The techno heavyweight will also perform at Nibirii Festival later this month (25th-27th August), alongside the likes of Deborah de LucaBou, Luude,Vini Vici, FrictionFatima Hajji, and Stella Bossi.
