Robert Carlyle: ‘Trainspotting 3 could be on the way’

The Begbie actor has been in talks with producers...

Trainspotting 3 could be in the pipeline according to Robert Carlyle, who revealed the news when speaking at the Edinburgh premiere of T2: Trainspotting.

Carlyle played Begbie in the iconic ‘90s film, resurrecting the role for the sequel which lands this week (Friday 27th January) and is loosely based on Irvine Welsh’s novel Porno.

Speaking about a third Trainspotting film to The Guardian, he said, “We’ve been talking about that, I am up for doing it. So maybe we ain’t seen the end of Begbie just yet.

“[T2] is the first time you see maybe there is another side to this guy. There is something quite emotional about that. He’s capable of feeling something more than just rage, so I am pleased that that element of Begbie has been shown.

“And maybe that sets up another film in fact, because Irvine Welsh has written The Blade Artist.”

Welsh confirmed the tracklist to T2 Trainspotting earlier this month (January) after it leaked online.

The first look at the sequel came in July when a teaser trailer was revealed, before the official UK trailer for Trainspotting 2 landed last November.

Director Danny Boyle also confirmed filming was due to begin on the sequel to the iconic ‘90s film in September 2015.

The Trainspotting sequel reunites original cast members Ewan McGregor (Renton), Ewen Bremner (Spud), Jonny Lee Miller (Sick Boy) and Robert Carlyle (Begbie).
