A new documentary on the power of dance music, Where Love Lives, is out this week.
Like many successful entrepreneurs, much of Yann Pissenem’s success lies in his ability to see opportunities, and capitalise on them. The Ushuaïa founder got his start in the music industry when he moved to Barcelona around 1994. The city was experiencing a post-Olympic boom, with a “really exciting after-party scene and lots of amazing new venues,” Pissenem says.
Glitterbox has locked Armand van Helden, Masters at Work, Roger Sanchez and more for Ibiza 2019.
The nu-disco and house session will take over Hï Ibiza each Sunday, opening on 26th May and running weekly until 6th October.
Honey Dijon, DJ Harvey, Horse Meat Disco, Purple Disco Machine, Nightmares On Wax, Derrick Carter and Dimitri From Paris are also confirmed.
Glitterbox have started a Change.org petition to encourage the creation of a disco ball emoji.
Asking that the emoji be introduced in the next iOS & Android, the beloved house and disco brand has described the disco ball as “a simple, but vital addition to the emoji keyboard”.
Glitterbox has announced that it will move from Fridays to Sundays at Hï Ibiza in 2019.
The move will mark a new extended season of 20 dates for the night, running from May 26th to October 6th net year.
Organisers said, "With a heavyweight line-up of the freshest disco talent and classic house heroes yet to be announced, Glitterbox will take over Hï Ibiza every Sunday with 2019’s crew of ferocious drag queens, dancers and performers, bringing the latest anthems from the label to life on the dancefloor."
Honing his legacy as a DJ playing forward-thinking house records on French radio in the ‘80s, Dimitri From Paris has made a name for himself thanks to his expertly crafted edits and remixes, which never stray too far from disco’s live and deeply-musical roots. Most recently, he’s put together a compilation of re-imagined classics titled ‘Le Chic Remixes’ for Defected, which houses reverent reworks of hits from Chic, Sister Sledge, Norman Jean and SB Devotion.
Some of Dimitri From Paris’ beloved remixes of classic Chic, Sister Sledge and Norma Jean tracks will feature on a new album on Glitterbox Recordings.
‘Dimitri From Paris Presents Le Chic Remix’ will be released on 8th June on vinyl, digital and CD. Intended to celebrate the work of legendary disco duo Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards and Chic, it features five of the DJ/producer’s classic, now ubiquitous edits including Chic’s ‘Le Freak’ and ‘I Want Your Love’, Sister Sledge’s ‘Lost In Music’ and ‘Thinking of You’ and Norma Jean’s ‘Saturday’.
Hï Ibiza has confirmed 2018's Glitterbox season, the venue's Friday night session dedicated to 21st Century disco and general glam antics, which kicks off on 1st June and will run weekly through to 28th September.
