Deaf Rave collective and founder DJ Troi Lee are the subject of new Netflix documentary

Turn Up The Bass explores the barriers faced by the deaf raving community

DJ collective Deaf Rave are the focus of a new Netflix documentary film, called Turn Up The Bass.

The short film follows the group's founder, DJ Troi Lee, as well as a number of other DJs, producers, MCs, sign singers and dancers from across the UK's Deaf raving community. Its release coincides with 20 years of Deaf Rave.

In the film, Troi Lee offers an insight into how the collective were founded and developed, and covers various landmark moments in their history to date, including their first appearance at Glastonbury.

The documentary was commissioned and funded via the Netflix Documentary Talent Fund, and was directed by London-based filmmaker Ted Evans.

In 2022, Deaf Rave teamed up with Groove School to put on a series of DJ workshops for Deaf people in London.
