DJ Harvey has announced that he will not perform in Ibiza this year.

The British DJ, who has been an enduring figure of the Balearic and Italo Disco parties held on the Spanish island since the '80s, cited “bureaucracy” as the reason he's unable to DJ there this summer.

Harvey's Mercury Rising residency at San Antonio hotel Pikes, which he launched in 2014, is a key event on the White Isle.

He assured fans in a handwritten note shared via his Instagram that “Pikes is in safe hands” and he will “return next year to keep that Mercury rising”. See his statement in full below.

In a 2017 interview with DJ Mag Harvey spoke about Pikes having its “foundation at the hedonistic heart of the island”. The hotel, which was founded by the late Ibiza legend Tony Pike, “is a platform for all sorts of creative, free and expressive art-forms, music being one of them.”

Harvey added that he values it as “a truly inclusive, welcoming place where one can let their freak flag fly”.
