Prince tribute concert to take place at this year’s Grammys

A Prince tribute concert is set to take place after the 2020 Grammy awards.

The event, which is set to take place two days after the awards Ceremony, and will be titled Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince, will be headlined by Foo Fighters, St. Beck, and Vincent.

Speaking in a statement, Deborah Dugan, president of the Recording Academy said: “Prince. The Purple One. His Royal Badness – regardless of how you identify him, he is indisputably one of the greatest musical virtuosos of all time. With his subversive attitude and commanding nature, he straddled musical genres and created electrifying music that was bursting with character. He continues to serve as an inspirational icon for artists and fans worldwide, and we are so honoured to pay tribute to his legacy.”

Alicia Keys, Coldplay's Chris Martin, and Usher will also perform at the concert, which will be directed by Prince's long-term collaborator Shelia E., Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis. Legendary outfit Earth, Wind & Fire are also slated for performances, as well as Common, H.E.R., and John Legend.

This year's Grammys will take place on the 27th January, with the concert taking place on the 29th. 

In terms of dance music at the Grammys this year, Bonobo is up for Best Dance Recording with 'Linked', alongside The Chemical Brothers' 'Got To Keep On', and Italian production trio Meduza, for their collaborative effort with Goodboys. Rüfüs Du Sol is also up for the award with 'Underwater', as are Skrillex & Boys Noize for 'Midnight Hour', which features rapper Ty Dolla $ign.

Last year, Prince’s seminal album, ‘1999’, saw a huge box set reissue.
