Ship Sket will release a new EP, ‘England as a Succubus’, next week via Illegal Data. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Parallel Vengeance Identity’ below.

On his third extended offering, the Dorset-born, Manchester-based DJ and producer pulls from a deep, dark well of creative influences, from the purple prose of Angela Carter and avant garde compositions of Villa Lobos and Xennakis, to the mystical folklore of the English countryside. The result is a suite of hyper-accelerated (and occasionally hellish) bass workouts destined to send dancefloors into a spin cycle.

Bone-rattling bass textures and laser-like synth zaps skitter over pacey 140 BPM beats on opener, ‘Frost Cake’, which dropped as a single last month, before ‘G String Politixx’ rises up in a flurry of spliced-up pop culture samples and glitching textures. ‘Cat Ears Pyschoanalysis’ is equally cranium-busting, coupling its synthetic strings with razor sharp shards of distortion, whilst the bass-soaked ‘Parallel Vengeance Identity’, leaves you asking ‘what on earth just happened?’ as its gyrating sub-bass rumbles to a halt.

‘England as a Succubus’ is the latest release on Bristol-based imprint Illegal Data, founded by one half of electronic duo Giant Swan, Harry, aka Mun Sing, alongside friend NE$$. Other projects released via the label include a Manuka Honey remix of SWAN MEAT’s ‘BLOOD SUPERNOVA’ and Zoee’s bizarre yet beautiful 2022 EP, ‘Moonflower’.

‘England as a Succubus’ is out 7th June on Illegal Data. Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘Parallel Vengeance Identity’ below.
