Wallis will release a new EP, ‘protect me from my friends’, via Boudica later this week. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘teenage apocalypse’ below.

Kicking off another year of rousing releases on the inclusive London label, Berlin’s Wallis delivers four meticulous movers that stretch her techno bearings and intrepid sound design in new directions. Jam-packed with dizzyingly intricate beats and robotic textures, alongside her trademark driving basslines, ‘protect me from my friends’ finds the DJ, producer and former mastering engineer getting more creative than ever with her sound.

The result is a project that feels fresh and exciting: from melancholic mover ‘hell is a girl from before (rainy summer mix)’, with its string-plucked grooves and powerful drums, to the emo-tinged textures of latest single and title track, ‘protect me from my friends’. Closing cut ‘teenage apocalypse’ packs a similarly angsty punch, compounding eerie keys and storytelling synths over a gritty breakbeat core.

In the artist’s words: “Sometimes life takes a weird turn. Angry, confused and dealing with moral: this EP targets the pain and absurdity of attachment and strongly themes Gregg Araki’s teenage apocalypse trilogy.”

The project follows Wallis’ 2022 EP ‘Trust No One’ and 2021’s intense techno tirade, ‘Rw1’. Catch her performing at Astropolis festival later this month (27th June), alongside fellow innovators BADSISTA, Blawan, Simo CellTatyana Jane and more. Tickets are available here.

‘protect me from my friends’ is out 7th June via Boudica, with the full EP following on 20th June. Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘teenage apocalypse’ below.
