Loraine James has dropped her new single, ‘I DM U’, featuring black midi drummer Morgan Simpson. Stream it below.

Released on 12th September, it's the latest track to be taken from the London artist's upcoming album 'Gentle Confrontation'. Also including the lead single '2003' and ‘Déjà Vu’ featuring RiTchie, her third full-length for Kode9's Hyperdub label will be released on 22nd September.

The 16-track LP follows on from 2021's 'Reflection' and her breakthrough 2019 album, 'For You And I'. It's inspired by her teenage emo and math rock favourites, like DNTEL, Lusine and Telefon Tel Aviv, and crosses themes of family relationships and self-compassion, according to the press release. The album also features a number of contributors, including Eden Samara, Marina Herlop, George Riley, Contour, Corey Mastrangelo, and keiyaA.

In the period between her second and third albums via Hyperdub, James released two albums last year: the Whatever The Weather project's debut LP on Ghostly International and 'Building Something Beautiful For Me' via Phantom Limb. She also shared a number of collaborations including the '053' EP with TSVI and 'Fuck It!' single with TAAHLIAH, and contributed an edit to the Tirzah remix album, 'Highgrade', last summer.

As well as being available via digital, CD and limited pink vinyl, there will be a Bandcamp listening party for 'Gentle Confrontation' on 20th September. RSVP for it and pre-order the album via Bandcamp.

From last year, revisit DJ Mag's cover feature with Loraine James.
