Huddled in a circle on the dark, smoke-filled dancefloor at Corsica Studios, the four MCs that make up Bala Bala Boyz spit over syncopated bass-heavy rhythms, passing a single microphone between the collective's members. Captivating crowds with their energy, and an effortless ability to flow as a family unit, it’s on these South London dancefloors — as well as DIY festivals like Kallida and Boiler Room's four-day London takeover last year — that Bala Bala Boyz come alive.
Nazar will return to Hyperdub for the release of his debut album next year.
Titled 'Guerilla', the album sees the Manchester-based producer draw on his family's experiences of the Angolan Civil War. Using a kuduro framework, Nazar looks, a press release says, to "sensitively examine and digitalize his family's collective memory and country's past," with his father having been a rebel general in the country who published a wartime journal, called 'Memorias de Um Guerrilheiro', in 2006.
Hyperdub has launched a special edition Sega Megadrive with a compilation of fresh tracks stored on a game cartridge.
Produced in collaboration with game system cloners Analogue, a company that has previously worked with similarly revered imprint Ghostly International, just 1,000 units of the limited edition Megadrive remix, dubbed the Konsolation, are available, only 150 of which will be sold in Europe.
Hyperdub has teamed up with TV network Adult Swim for a new 15th anniversary compilation titled 'HyperSwim'.
19 artists that currently make up part of Hyperdub's label roster feature on the release, including Burial, Dean Blunt, Fatima Al Qadiri, Laurel Halo, Lee Gamble, Cooly G, DJ Haram, and label head Kode9.
HyperSwim will initially be available for streaming in full via Adult Swim only this Friday, November 22nd, with a wider release set to follow across all digital platforms a day later on Saturday, November 23rd.
Burial has announced a new compilation.
Off the back of a second collaborative EP with The Bug, a solo EP and remixing Luke Slater's 'Love', the South London producer will release 'Tunes 2011-2019' via Hyperdub on 6th December.
Compiling tracks from EPs released over the last eight years, the release will span two CDs worth of material.
Hyperdub will celebrate their 15th birthday with a party at London's Village Underground later this month.
Featuring a number of core members from the label's roster, the party will see Kode9 playing b2b with a special guest who will remain unannounced until the party. The label has hinted that the guest is a "South London legend" and old friend of the label, and added that the b2b will mark the first time the two have played together in the UK.
Lee Gamble has announced the second part in his ongoing triptych of records, 'Flush Real Pharynx'.
'Exhaust' sees Gamble continue to explore the three stages of the' Semioblitz', a term popularised by the writer Mark Fisher which refers to "the aggressive onslaught of visual and sonic stimuli of contemporary cities and virtual spaces".
Doon Kanda will release a new album via Hyperdub.
Following two EPs on the underground imprint, 'Luna' and 'Heart', producer and artist Jesse Kanda will release the 13-track album, entitled 'Labyrinth', on the 29th November.
The first single to be shared from the album is 'Polycephaly', a haunting, key-laden track written in a 3/4 time signature inspired by the Waltz - a theme which Hyperdub shares runs throughout 'Labyrinth'.
